Overview

DWJ1609 is an oral, tablet-based bowel-preparation combination developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical for cleansing the colon before colonoscopy. It contains sodium sulfate, potassium sulfate, anhydrous magnesium sulfate, simethicone, and sodium picosulfate. The sulfate salts act as poorly absorbed osmotic laxatives that retain water in the intestinal lumen; sodium picosulfate provides a complementary stimulant-laxative effect after colonic activation; and simethicone reduces intraluminal foam. In a randomized multicenter Phase 3 study, the reduced-sulfate, sodium-picosulfate-containing formulation required 20 tablets and demonstrated non-inferior bowel-cleansing efficacy versus a conventional oral sulfate tablet preparation.
