Overview

DWP05195 is a small molecule antagonist of the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel. It was developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical for the management of pain, particularly neuropathic pain such as postherpetic neuralgia. As a TRPV1 antagonist, it inhibits pain signal transduction triggered by capsaicin and other typical TRPV1 agonists. In preclinical studies and early clinical trials, DWP05195 demonstrated dose-dependent increases in heat pain threshold and tolerance in healthy subjects. Additionally, research has shown that it can induce endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-dependent apoptosis via the ROS-p38-CHOP pathway in human ovarian cancer cells[1][3][5]. The drug has completed Phase 2 clinical trials for postherpetic neuralgia but does not appear to have reached regulatory approval or further advanced development as of mid-2025[4][9].
