DWP218 is a small molecule inhibitor of the **NLRP3 (NACHT, LRR and PYD domains-containing protein 3) inflammasome** currently in preclinical development by **Daewoong Pharmaceutical** and its US-based subsidiary **Great Bear Pharmaceutical**. The drug is being developed to treat **neuroinflammation**, a condition associated with various neurodegenerative diseases, including **Alzheimer's disease**. By inhibiting the NLRP3 inflammasome, DWP218 prevents the maturation and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and IL-18, which are known to contribute to neuronal damage and disease progression.
