Drug intelligence / Profile preview
DWRX5003 is a microneedle patch formulation of semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, being developed by Daewoong Pharmaceutical. It is designed for the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus. The microneedle technology aims to provide a minimally invasive, painless alternative to traditional subcutaneous injections, potentially improving patient compliance. By activating GLP-1 receptors, semaglutide enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying, which collectively lead to improved glycemic control and weight loss. DWRX5003 is currently in Phase 1 clinical development to assess its safety and bioavailability compared to other semaglutide formulations.
