DX243 is a first-in-class small molecule developed by Dendrogenix for the treatment of age-related hearing loss (ARHL) and sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL). It is a synthetic analog of Dendrogenin A (DDA), a naturally occurring cholesterol-derived metabolite that functions as a selective Liver X receptor (LXR) modulator. Endogenous levels of Dendrogenin A are known to decline with age, and DX243 is designed to restore these levels to promote the survival and regeneration of auditory hair cells and spiral ganglion neurons within the cochlea. By activating LXR-mediated pathways, DX243 exhibits potent neuroprotective and neurotrophic effects, aiming to preserve hearing function and potentially reverse the progression of sensorineural deafness. The drug is typically administered via intratympanic injection to ensure direct delivery to the inner ear.
