Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dycotrim is an oral suspension antibiotic manufactured by Garima Health Care, containing the combination drug co-trimoxazole (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim). It is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections. The mechanism of action involves a synergistic dual-blockade of the bacterial folate synthesis pathway: sulfamethoxazole inhibits dihydropteroate synthase, preventing the synthesis of dihydropteroic acid, while trimethoprim inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, preventing the reduction of dihydrofolate to tetrahydrofolate. This sequential inhibition effectively halts bacterial DNA synthesis and growth. The product is formulated as an oral suspension, typically in 50ml volumes, and adheres to Indian Pharmacopoeia (I.P.) standards.
