Overview

E-B-FAHF-2 (Enhanced-Butanol purified-Food Allergy Herbal Formula-2) is a botanical drug candidate developed by New York Medical College in collaboration with General Nutraceutical Technology for the treatment of food allergies. It is a refined, more potent version of the nine-herb formula FAHF-2, which is derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Wu Mei Wan. E-B-FAHF-2 is designed to suppress IgE-mediated allergic responses. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of IgE production by suppressing key transcription factors, including XBP1, BLIMP1, and STAT6, which are essential for B-cell differentiation into IgE-producing plasma cells. Berberine has been identified as a major active compound within the formula. In clinical studies, it has been evaluated as an adjunctive therapy to omalizumab-facilitated multi-allergen oral immunotherapy (multi-OIT) to improve safety and promote sustained unresponsiveness in patients with multiple food allergies, including peanut, milk, and egg.
