This combination therapy regimen was evaluated in a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02879006) for the treatment of multiple food allergies. Developed by Dr. Xiu-Min Li at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, the protocol combines three distinct therapeutic approaches: the refined nine-herb Chinese herbal formula **E-B-FAHF-2**, the anti-IgE monoclonal antibody **omalizumab** (Xolair), and **multi-allergen oral immunotherapy** (OIT). E-B-FAHF-2 is a butanol-purified extract of the original FAHF-2 formula, designed to concentrate biologically active compounds and allow for lower dosing. Omalizumab serves as a pharmacological bridge to improve safety and accelerate the build-up phase of OIT by neutralizing free IgE. The multi-allergen OIT component involves gradual desensitization to allergens including milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, sesame, and wheat. The combination aims to induce sustained unresponsiveness by suppressing Th2-mediated allergic responses and modulating the immune system's long-term tolerance to food proteins.
