E coli H10407 (also known as ETEC H10407) is a well-characterized, virulent strain of enterotoxigenic *Escherichia coli* (serotype O78:H11) used as a live bacterial challenge agent in controlled human infection models (CHIM). It is primarily employed in Phase 1 clinical trials to validate vaccine efficacy and study the pathophysiology of traveler's diarrhea and pediatric diarrhea. The strain is defined by its production of key virulence factors, including heat-labile enterotoxin (LT), heat-stable enterotoxin (ST), and colonization factor antigen I (CFA/I). It was developed by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in collaboration with the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR), which maintains the cGMP-quality production cell bank.
