Drug intelligence / Profile preview
E-islet 01 is an investigational, stem-cell-derived pancreatic islet cell therapy developed by Eli Lilly for the treatment of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). The therapy consists of insulin-producing cells derived from a proprietary stem cell line, designed to replace the endogenous beta cells destroyed by the autoimmune process in T1D patients. By restoring the body's ability to produce insulin in response to glucose levels, E-islet 01 aims to improve glycemic control, eliminate severe hypoglycemic events, and restore hypoglycemic awareness. The cells are typically administered via infusion into the hepatic portal vein, where they engraft in the liver and function as an auxiliary endocrine organ.
