Overview

E.coli autovaccine is an individually prepared, patient-specific vaccine made from inactivated strains of Escherichia coli isolated from the patient’s own infection site. It is used as a therapeutic and preventive measure for persistent or recurrent infections caused by multidrug-resistant or antibiotic-refractory E. coli, particularly in cases such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), chronic prostatitis, and other chronic bacterial infections of the urogenital system, respiratory tract, skin/wounds, and ENT regions[1][2][6][8]. The mechanism involves stimulating the patient's immune system to recognize and mount a targeted response against their specific infecting strain(s) of E. coli by presenting antigens derived from those bacteria[1][2][6]. This approach can reduce recurrence rates of infection and decrease reliance on antibiotics[2]. Autovaccines are typically administered sublingually (as drops) or intramuscularly depending on clinical context[1][2][6].
