E.S. Enema

E.S. Enema is a saline osmotic laxative used for rapid bowel cleansing. It is typically administered rectally as a preoperative bowel preparation method, such as before hemorrhoidectomy or other anorectal surgeries, and for the relief of occasional constipation. The product is developed and manufactured by E.S. Ilac in Turkey. Its mechanism of action involves the use of sodium phosphate salts (sodium dihydrogen phosphate and disodium hydrogen phosphate) to create an osmotic gradient in the intestinal lumen. This gradient draws water into the colon, increasing intraluminal volume, softening the stool, and stimulating peristalsis to facilitate evacuation. In clinical trials conducted by Saglik Bilimleri Universitesi, E.S. Enema has been evaluated for its impact on postoperative outcomes, including pain levels and patient comfort, compared to oral laxative solutions.
