Drug intelligence / Profile preview
E1 is an AI-generated CRISPR effector developed by Profluent Bio. It was designed using the company's proprietary AI foundation models, which are trained on vast genomic and proteomic datasets to create novel proteins from scratch. E1 is a Cas9-like nuclease that has been optimized for high editing efficiency and specificity, aiming to overcome the limitations of naturally occurring CRISPR enzymes. Profluent released a version of this technology, known as OpenCRISPR-1, as an open-source tool to facilitate the development of next-generation gene therapies. While E1 is a component of Profluent's broader protein design platform, it represents a specific, functional gene-editing tool intended for therapeutic applications in human health, as well as uses in agriculture and industry.
