e20 and e137 are cross-reactive human monoclonal antibodies developed by Pomona Ricerca that target the highly conserved antigenic region 3 (AR3) of the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) E2 envelope glycoprotein. The AR3 region is a critical site for viral entry, as it overlaps with the binding site for the CD81 receptor on host hepatocytes. By binding to this conserved epitope, these antibodies are designed to neutralize a broad range of HCV genotypes and subtypes, potentially preventing infection or viral escape. These candidates are currently in preclinical development for the treatment and prevention of Hepatitis C virus infection, particularly in settings such as liver transplantation where preventing graft reinfection is a clinical priority.
