Drug intelligence / Profile preview
E2082 is an investigational small molecule drug developed by Eisai as a potential antiepileptic agent. It acts as an antagonist of the alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) receptor, a subtype of glutamate receptor involved in excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system. The mechanism of action is similar to that of perampanel hydrate (Fycompa), another AMPA receptor antagonist approved for epilepsy. E2082 was evaluated in clinical trials for epilepsy and photosensitive epilepsy but development was discontinued after a fatality occurred during a Phase I study in healthy volunteers[1][7][3]. All clinical studies with E2082 have been terminated.
