Drug intelligence / Profile preview
E45 Complete Emollient Therapy is a topical skincare regimen developed by Reckitt Benckiser Healthcare International for the management of dry skin conditions and mild to moderate atopic dermatitis (eczema). The regimen encompasses a combination of products, including soap-substitute washes and leave-on moisturizers like the core E45 Cream and E45 Itch Relief Cream. Its primary mechanism of action is the restoration and maintenance of the skin's natural barrier through the use of occlusive and emollient ingredients such as white soft paraffin, light liquid paraffin, and anhydrous lanolin. These components form a protective layer on the skin surface, significantly reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL) and shielding the skin from external irritants. The therapy has been evaluated in Phase 4 clinical studies in the UK to assess its efficacy, safety, and impact on patient quality of life compared to standard emollient routines.
