Overview

EA-2532 is an investigational small molecule drug developed by Endogena Therapeutics for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA) secondary to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Unlike current treatments that primarily focus on slowing disease progression by inhibiting the complement system, EA-2532 utilizes a regenerative medicine approach. It is designed to selectively activate endogenous retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) stem cells to promote the regeneration of the RPE layer, which is typically lost in GA. The drug is administered via intravitreal injection. In late 2023, the FDA cleared the Investigational New Drug (IND) application for EA-2532, facilitating the start of Phase 1/2a clinical trials to evaluate its safety and preliminary efficacy in patients with advanced AMD.
