Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EA3355 is a small molecule, selective farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist developed by EA Pharma for the treatment of liver diseases, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). FXR is a nuclear receptor primarily expressed in the liver and intestine that plays a critical role in regulating bile acid synthesis, transport, and metabolism, as well as lipid and glucose homeostasis. By activating FXR, EA3355 is designed to reduce hepatic bile acid levels, suppress inflammation, and inhibit fibrogenesis, thereby addressing the underlying pathology of chronic liver conditions. As of 2024, the drug is in early-stage clinical development, with Phase 1 studies evaluating its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy Japanese and Caucasian volunteers.
