Overview

East Indian sandalwood oil is an essential oil derived from the heartwood of the Santalum album tree, native to India and known for its rich fragrance and therapeutic properties. The primary active component is santalol (mainly beta-santalol), which imparts anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, antiseptic, astringent, aphrodisiac, antidepressant, immune-stimulant and sedative effects. Traditionally used in aromatherapy for relaxation and stress relief as well as in skincare for its soothing and wound-healing properties. It is also widely used in perfumery as a fixative due to its long-lasting scent. The mechanism of action primarily involves modulation of inflammatory pathways and inhibition of microbial growth[1][3][5][6].
