EBA-175 RII-NG is a recombinant protein subunit malaria vaccine developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The vaccine is based on the non-glycosylated Region II of the erythrocyte-binding antigen 175 (EBA-175), which is a conserved parasite ligand that mediates the invasion of human erythrocytes by binding to glycophorin A. Formulated with an aluminum phosphate adjuvant (Adju-Phos), the vaccine is designed to elicit antibodies that block this interaction, thereby inhibiting parasite growth. It has been evaluated in Phase I clinical trials in both malaria-endemic and non-endemic populations, demonstrating safety and immunogenicity.
