Overview

EBESANAR is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of ABCB5-positive (ABCB5+) mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs), originally developed by RHEACELL and commercialized by AOP Health. It is designed as a systemic treatment for rare, severe forms of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), specifically Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) and Junctional Epidermolysis Bullosa (JEB), conditions often referred to as "butterfly disease." The therapy leverages the immunomodulatory and tissue-regenerative properties of ABCB5+ MSCs to reduce systemic inflammation and accelerate the healing of chronic skin wounds. EBESANAR is currently in Phase 3 clinical trials, with a marketing authorization application in Europe anticipated for early 2026.
