Overview

Eblasakimab is a novel, fully human monoclonal IgG4 antibody that specifically targets the interleukin-13 receptor alpha 1 subunit (IL-13Rα1). By binding to IL-13Rα1, eblasakimab blocks signaling through the type 2 receptor complex (composed of IL-4R and IL-13R), thereby inhibiting both interleukin-4 (IL‑4) and interleukin‑13 (IL‑13) mediated pathways. These cytokines are central drivers of type 2 inflammation implicated in allergic diseases such as atopic dermatitis (AD), asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Eblasakimab is being developed primarily for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis and has demonstrated significant clinical improvements in multiple phase 1b/2 trials, including in patients previously treated with dupilumab. Its differentiated mechanism—targeting the IL‑13 receptor rather than the IL‑4 receptor—may offer advantages in efficacy and safety compared to other biologics targeting this pathway[1][2][3][8].
