Ebola convalescent plasma is plasma collected from individuals who have recovered from Ebola virus disease (EVD). This plasma contains polyclonal antibodies specific to Ebola virus, which can provide **passive immunity** by neutralizing the virus when transfused into infected patients. The presumed primary mechanism is the neutralizing activity of immunoglobulins (mainly IgG, along with IgM and IgA) targeting the Ebola virus glycoprotein. The therapy delivers immediate, short-term immune support while the recipient mounts their own immune response. Collection is typically through apheresis and requires ABO blood group compatibility. Ebola convalescent plasma has been prioritized by WHO for clinical trials and considered feasible, acceptable, and safe, but efficacy data remain limited. It is mainly used in outbreaks when no specific antivirals or vaccines are available, and is included in WHO guidelines for managing EVD[1][3][6][7].
