Overview

Eburicoic acid (EK100) is a bioactive triterpenoid isolated from the medicinal fungus *Antrodia cinnamomea*. It is being investigated for its potential therapeutic effects in Alzheimer's disease (AD) due to its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Preclinical studies in APPswe/PS1dE9 mouse models have shown that EK100 can improve cognitive-like behaviors (such as nesting), reduce the accumulation and burden of amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques, and decrease the activation of astrocytes and microglia. The compound appears to work by promoting the perivascular clearance of Aβ and stimulating hippocampal neurogenesis. It also modulates microglia morphology and promotes the expression of oxidative enzymes in plaque-associated microglia.
