EBV-LMP-2 is an experimental therapeutic peptide vaccine developed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the treatment and prevention of recurrence in patients with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The vaccine targets the Latent Membrane Protein 2 (LMP-2), a viral protein consistently expressed in NPC cells that serves as a target for cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs). It typically consists of specific HLA-restricted peptides, such as LMP-2:340-349 (for HLA-A*1101) or LMP-2:419-427 (for HLA-A*2402), which are emulsified with the adjuvant Montanide ISA-51 to enhance the immune response. By stimulating the expansion of LMP-2-specific CD8+ T cells, the vaccine aims to eliminate residual tumor cells and prevent disease relapse.
