Overview

This is an investigational adoptive cell therapy developed by researchers at University Hospital Basel, Switzerland. It consists of donor-derived Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) enriched for a stem cell memory (Tscm) phenotype. These cells are characterized by high proportions of CD4+ T cells and broad coverage of EBV antigens. The therapy is designed to provide long-term immune surveillance and effector function against EBV-infected cells. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I/II clinical trials for treatment-refractory EBV-driven diseases, including post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD), EBV-associated lymphomas, hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), and chronic active EBV infection (CAEBV).
