EBV-specific T-lymphocytes (also known as viral-specific T-lymphocytes or VSTs) is an investigational donor-derived adoptive T-cell therapy designed to treat viral infections in immunocompromised patients, particularly those who have undergone hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) or solid organ transplantation (SOT). The therapy is produced by collecting peripheral blood mononuclear cells from a partially HLA-matched donor and stimulating them in vitro with antigens from Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and/or adenovirus. Using the Miltenyi Biotec CliniMACS Prodigy® or CliniMACS® Plus platform and gamma capture technology, interferon-gamma-secreting, virus-specific T cells are isolated in a closed, sterile system. These enriched T cells are then infused into the patient to reconstitute cellular immunity and eliminate virally infected cells. The product is manufactured at the point of care and is currently being evaluated in a Phase I/II clinical trial (NCT06909110) for the treatment of refractory adenovirus, CMV, and EBV infections.
