EBV-targeted dendritic cell vaccine is an autologous cellular immunotherapy designed to treat Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated malignancies, such as EBV-positive nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The vaccine is prepared by harvesting a patient's peripheral blood mononuclear cells, differentiating them into dendritic cells, and loading them with EBV-specific antigens (such as LMP1, LMP2, or EBNA1). Once reinfused, these antigen-presenting cells activate and expand EBV-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) in vivo, which then target and destroy EBV-positive tumor cells. This therapeutic approach is being evaluated in clinical trials, including investigator-initiated studies in China, for patients with recurrent or refractory EBV-positive nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
