The EBV-targeted mRNA vaccine is an investigational immunotherapy developed by West China Hospital of Sichuan University for the treatment of refractory Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated malignancies. The vaccine utilizes messenger RNA (mRNA) technology to deliver genetic instructions for specific EBV antigens, such as LMP1, LMP2, or EBNA1, which are commonly expressed in EBV-positive tumor cells. Upon administration, the vaccine stimulates the patient's immune system to produce these viral proteins, thereby eliciting a targeted T-cell-mediated immune response against the tumor. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials as a monotherapy and in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors for indications including nasopharyngeal carcinoma, gastric cancer, and NK/T-cell lymphoma.
