The EBVP regimen is a combination chemotherapy protocol consisting of etoposide, bleomycin, vinblastine, and prednisone. It was specifically investigated by the Centro di Riferimento Oncologico in Aviano, Italy, as a treatment strategy for patients with Hodgkin's disease and concurrent HIV infection. The regimen was designed to provide an effective but less toxic alternative to more intensive regimens like Stanford V or MOPP/ABVD in the context of HIV-related immunosuppression. Etoposide functions as a topoisomerase II inhibitor, preventing DNA ligation and inducing apoptosis. Bleomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic that causes oxidative DNA strand scission. Vinblastine is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule assembly, leading to mitotic arrest. Prednisone is a synthetic corticosteroid that exerts lympholytic effects through glucocorticoid receptor activation. In clinical trials, this regimen was often administered with G-CSF support to manage hematological toxicity.
