EC625 is a small‑molecule, long‑acting progestin prodrug contraceptive being developed as a subcutaneous injectable formulation intended to provide up to six months of fertility control without estrogen. Preclinical data and patent disclosures indicate that EC625 is an estrogen‑related receptor (ERR) modulator–derived progestin ester designed to achieve extended release and sustained systemic progestogenic activity to suppress ovulation and provide effective contraception. Developed by Evestra in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the program targets a low‑cost, longer‑term injectable contraceptive option suitable for women in both developing and developed countries.
