ecabet sodium

Ecabet sodium is a small molecule anti-ulcer agent primarily used in Japan for the treatment of gastric ulcers and gastritis. It acts by enhancing the protective barrier of the gastric mucosa, increasing mucus and bicarbonate production to neutralize stomach acid and protect the mucosal lining from damage[1][2]. Additionally, it inhibits pepsin activity, reduces Helicobacter pylori survival in the stomach, and irreversibly inhibits urease—an enzyme critical for H. pylori colonization—by binding to it and causing denaturation[3][4][6][8]. Ecabet also increases mucin production when used as an eye drop for dry eye syndrome by stimulating conjunctival goblet cells and corneal epithelia[3].
