ECAR-T refers to a form of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy, a type of cellular immunotherapy in which a patient's own T cells are genetically engineered in the laboratory to express chimeric antigen receptors (CARs) on their surface. These modified T cells are designed to recognize and bind specific antigens present on cancer cells, enabling targeted destruction of those malignant cells. The process involves extracting the patient’s T cells, modifying them with genes encoding CARs—often using viral vectors—expanding them in vitro, and then infusing them back into the patient. Once administered, these engineered CAR T-cells seek out and kill cancerous cells expressing the target antigen. This approach has shown significant efficacy particularly in certain blood cancers such as lymphomas, leukemias, and multiple myeloma[1][2][3][4][5]. The term "ECAR-T" may refer to an engineered or enhanced version of standard CAR-T cell therapies.
