Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ECC4449 is an orally bioavailable, small molecule inhibitor of semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO), also known as vascular adhesion protein-1 (VAP-1). Developed by Eccogene, the compound is currently in Phase 1 clinical development for the treatment of cardiometabolic and inflammatory conditions, including non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). SSAO/VAP-1 is a dual-function protein expressed primarily on the vascular endothelium and adipocytes; it functions as both an adhesion molecule for leukocyte recruitment and an enzyme that generates pro-inflammatory and pro-oxidative byproducts such as hydrogen peroxide and aldehydes. By inhibiting this target, ECC4449 aims to attenuate the chronic inflammation and subsequent fibrosis that drive the progression of metabolic and inflammatory diseases.
