echinacoside

Echinacoside is a natural phenylethanoid glycoside first isolated from Echinacea angustifolia. It is currently being investigated for its anti-apoptotic, neuroprotective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardiovascular effects. Preclinical studies suggest potential therapeutic applications in neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, acute colitis, wound healing, hepatitis, and certain cancers including endometrial cancer. Mechanistically, echinacoside has been shown to inhibit apoptosis and may exert its effects through modulation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway among others[1][4][6]. However, it suffers from poor bioavailability in its prototype form and lacks robust clinical trial evidence for any indication.
