Echinaforce Hotdrink

Echinaforce Hotdrink is a phytopharmaceutical (herbal) formulation developed by A. Vogel Bioforce AG for the treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza. The product is a syrup/hot drink concentrate containing a hydroethanolic extract of freshly harvested *Echinacea purpurea* (comprising 95% herb and 5% root) supplemented with European elderberry (*Sambucus nigra*). It exhibits broad-spectrum antiviral activity against multiple influenza strains, including H1N1, H3N2, and highly pathogenic avian strains (H5N1, H7N7). In a Phase 3 randomized, double-blind, non-inferiority clinical trial, Echinaforce Hotdrink demonstrated comparable efficacy to the neuraminidase inhibitor oseltamivir (Tamiflu) in alleviating flu symptoms, while being associated with a lower incidence of complications and fewer gastrointestinal adverse events such as nausea and vomiting. It is available as an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine in various European markets.
