Overview

Echinocandin B is a cyclic lipopeptide fermentation product naturally produced by the fungus *Aspergillus nidulans*. It serves as a critical pharmaceutical intermediate in the synthesis of semi-synthetic echinocandin antifungal agents, most notably anidulafungin. Developed and manufactured by Shandong Freda Biotech, echinocandin B functions by inhibiting 1,3-beta-glucan synthase, an enzyme essential for the synthesis of beta-glucan in the fungal cell wall. The disruption of cell wall integrity leads to osmotic instability and fungal cell death. While echinocandin B itself possesses antifungal properties, its primary commercial utility is as a starting material for the production of more stable and potent clinical antifungal drugs used to treat invasive candidiasis and aspergillosis.
