Echis coloratus venom is a complex biological mixture of proteins and peptides derived from the painted saw-scaled viper, a venomous snake native to Egypt and the Middle East. In the context of oncology research, the crude venom is being investigated for its potent anticancer properties. Preclinical *in vitro* studies have demonstrated that the venom exhibits significant cytotoxicity against breast cancer (MCF-7) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cell lines. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of oxidative stress, characterized by increased lipid peroxidation (measured via malondialdehyde levels) and the release of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) due to cell membrane damage. Furthermore, the venom induces apoptosis and causes genomic DNA alterations, suggesting its potential as a source for novel therapeutic agents in cancer treatment.
