Overview
EchiTAb Plus (EchiTAb-Plus-ICP) is an equine polyspecific whole IgG antivenom developed by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP) at the Universidad de Costa Rica, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health of Nigeria. It is produced by immunizing horses with a mixture of venoms from three medically important Nigerian snake species: the saw-scaled viper (*Echis ocellatus*), the puff adder (*Bitis arietans*), and the black-necked spitting cobra (*Naja nigricollis*). The antivenom contains caprylic acid-purified whole equine IgG antibodies designed to neutralize the lethal, hemorrhagic, and necrotizing toxins in these venoms. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of snakebite envenoming in sub-Saharan Africa and has been evaluated in Phase II/III clinical trials in Nigeria to demonstrate non-inferiority to existing treatments.
