EchiTAb Plus ICP

EchiTAb Plus ICP (also written EchiTAb-Plus-ICP or EchiTAb+ICP) is a whole IgG polyspecific equine antivenom developed for the treatment of snakebite envenoming in sub-Saharan Africa. It is produced by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado (ICP) in Costa Rica and is classified as a biologic (polyclonal antibody/antivenom). The active ingredient consists of whole IgG antibodies derived from horses hyperimmunized with the venoms of the carpet viper (*Echis ocellatus*), the puff adder (*Bitis arietans*), and the black-necked spitting cobra (*Naja nigricollis*), with the current formulation also targeting *Dendroaspis polylepis* (black mamba). Its biological targets are the toxic venom components of these medically important African snake species, including metalloproteinases, serine proteinases, C-type lectin-like proteins, phospholipases A2, and L-amino acid oxidase. The drug treats systemic snakebite envenoming, including coagulopathy, shock, and neurotoxicity. It is a pan-African antivenom intended for use in rural sub-Saharan African communities. It is being evaluated in the ANYSNAKES Phase 3 randomized open-label clinical trial in Ghana and Togo, sponsored by the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, comparing multiple antivenoms and dose optimization strategies for patients aged 2 years and older with systemic snake envenoming.
