Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Echiven is an equine-derived monovalent antivenom developed by VINS Bio Products for the treatment of snake envenomation caused by the West African saw-scaled viper (*Echis ocellatus*). It consists of purified F(ab')2 antibody fragments obtained from the plasma of horses immunized against *Echis ocellatus* venom. The polyclonal antibodies in Echiven physically bind to and neutralize the active toxins within the venom, preventing systemic toxicity and tissue damage. It is approved and marketed in several sub-Saharan African countries where *Echis ocellatus* envenomation is a major public health concern.
