Overview
Ecologic 641 is a multispecies probiotic formulation developed by Winclove Probiotics, designed to modulate the gut microbiota and enhance the intestinal barrier. It consists of six freeze-dried, viable bacterial strains: *Lactobacillus acidophilus* (W70), *Lactobacillus casei* (W56), *Lactobacillus salivarius* (W24), *Lactococcus lactis* (W58), *Bifidobacterium bifidum* (W23), and *Bifidobacterium lactis* (W52). The formulation was specifically engineered to inhibit the growth of common pathogens associated with systemic infections, particularly those found in infected pancreatic necrosis, through the production of organic acids and competitive exclusion. Ecologic 641 gained significant attention in clinical research through the PROPATRIA trial, which investigated its efficacy in preventing infectious complications in patients with severe acute pancreatitis. Beyond its antimicrobial properties, the formulation aims to stabilize the intestinal epithelial barrier and reduce bacterial translocation and systemic inflammation.
