Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ecoza is a brand name for econazole nitrate topical foam, an azole antifungal medication. It is indicated for the treatment of interdigital tinea pedis (athlete’s foot) caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum in patients 12 years of age and older. Econazole works by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P-450-mediated 14 alpha-lanosterol demethylase enzyme, which disrupts ergosterol synthesis in the fungal cell membrane. This leads to accumulation of toxic sterols and loss of membrane integrity, resulting in fungistatic activity. The product is supplied as a 1% topical foam and should be applied once daily for four weeks[1][2][4][5].
