Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ecovitis is a specific grape seed extract (Vitis vinifera) characterized by a high concentration of oligo-polymeric procyanidins (>95%) and low monomeric catechin content. It is produced by Distillerie Bonollo Umberto S.p.A using a solvent-free green extraction process involving water and selective tangential flow filtration. The extract is being investigated in clinical trials led by the University of Padova for its potential to modulate gut microbiota composition, reduce intestinal permeability (measured by zonulin levels), and improve the quality of life in patients with ulcerative colitis in remission. Its therapeutic effects are attributed to the antioxidant and immunomodulatory properties of proanthocyanidins, which may help repair the leaky gut associated with inflammatory bowel disease.
