Overview

ECP105 is a proprietary small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapy developed for injection into the ocular cavity to prevent fibrosis (scarring) following glaucoma surgery. It contains a novel siRNA sequence designed to silence the gene Myocardin-related transcription factor B (MRTF-B), which is responsible for post-surgical fibrosis in the eye. By inhibiting MRTF-B expression, ECP105 aims to reduce or prevent scarring at the surgical site, thereby improving surgical outcomes and reducing the need for repeat procedures. Unlike current off-label treatments such as Mitomycin C—which carry significant toxicity risks—ECP105 can be administered repeatedly without cytotoxic side effects. The therapy uses Nanogenics’ LipTide peptide delivery platform and has demonstrated proof-of-concept efficacy in preclinical studies by matching the anti-fibrotic effect of Mitomycin C without associated toxicity. While primarily developed for post-surgical glaucoma patients, its mechanism may also have relevance in other fibrotic diseases such as liver and lung fibrosis[1][2][3][5][6][7].
