ECT-001-expanded cord blood is an ex vivo expanded allogeneic cell therapy derived from a single umbilical cord blood (UCB) unit. The expansion process utilizes UM171, a small molecule agonist that promotes the self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) while preventing their differentiation. The final product consists of UM171-expanded CD34+ hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) combined with the unexpanded CD34- fraction from the same donor unit. Administered intravenously, ECT-001 is designed to provide rapid and robust engraftment in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT), particularly those with high-risk myeloid malignancies who lack a suitable matched donor. It has received conditional marketing authorization in the European Union under the brand name Zemcelpro for certain hematologic conditions.
