Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ectoine + hyaluronic acid** is a non-systemic topical combination used in ocular-lubricating preparations and investigated in dermatologic cream formulations. Ectoine is a natural extremolyte with water-binding and membrane-stabilizing properties, while hyaluronic acid forms a bioadhesive, water-retaining lubricating film. In marketed HYLO ocular formulations, the combination hydrates the corneal and conjunctival surface, stabilizes the tear film and reduces tear evaporation, helping relieve dry-eye irritation and allergy-associated ocular symptoms. A 1% ectoine plus 0.1% hyaluronic acid cream has also been studied in children with mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis.
