Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Eczema calming lotion is a topical emollient formulation developed by Unilever, specifically designed for the management of atopic dermatitis (eczema). The product contains a combination of petroleum jelly (petrolatum), fatty acids, and colloidal oatmeal, which work synergistically to repair and strengthen the skin's epidermal barrier. Its mechanism of action involves promoting the maturation of corneocytes by facilitating the peripheral redistribution of corneodesmosin (CDSN) and increasing the length and organization of intercellular lipid lamellae (ICLL) within the stratum corneum. Clinical data indicates that the lotion helps normalize ceramide profiles, particularly by increasing the levels of long-chain ceramides, thereby reducing transepidermal water loss and improving skin hydration in both lesional and non-lesional AD-prone skin.
