Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ED94 is an investigational **mucosal recombinant adenovirus serotype 5 vaccine** developed by Vaxart for prevention of **COVID-19**. It is one of Vaxart's intranasal or oral-mucosal next-generation SARS-CoV-2 vaccine candidates and is designed to express the **Beta variant spike protein** of SARS-CoV-2 using a **non-replicating rAd5 vector**. In preclinical nonhuman primate studies, ED94 generated matched humoral responses to the homologous Beta spike antigen, but showed less cross-reactive systemic and mucosal immunity against other variants than the Wuhan-spike candidate ED90; based on these comparative data, ED90 rather than ED94 was selected for further clinical development. The construct appears to remain a preclinical research candidate rather than an approved or clinically advanced product.
