edaglitazone

Edaglitazone is a thiazolidinedione-class antidiabetic drug candidate. Like other thiazolidinediones, it is presumed to act as an agonist of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ), thereby improving insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues and reducing hepatic glucose output. Thiazolidinediones are used primarily for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus by modulating genes involved in glucose and lipid metabolism, leading to improved glycemic control. Edaglitazone has been investigated as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes but does not appear to be approved or widely marketed.
